Supporting The Big Issue

Basing our business in London means we are very aware that not everyone has access to a warm bed - or even a safe place to sleep. That's why Warren Evans has been offering every Big Issue vendor who is re-housed with help from The Big Issue Foundation a free handcrafted bed and mattress.

John Bird, Big Issue Founder, explains (published 13/03/2006):

"It never occurred to me that Warren Evans and their bed business might want to do more that sell beds. That they might want to, in a more direct way, help the homeless get their own bed. Now that is the nature of the partnership that we have established... it seems so obvious!"

The Foundation offers support and advice with its ultimate aim to see vendors re-housed in permanent, secure and manageable accommodation.

Alan is one of the recently re-housed Londoners Warren Evans has helped.

Alan's Story

At his new flat in the heart of London's East End, Alan sits on a Warren Evans bed while his girlfriend excitedly gets out the hair gel to prepare him for the photographer. As the couple carefully tuck in the sheets, Alan talks of their plans to turn the flat into a proper home.

'This bed is the crowning piece,' Alan beams, 'it will last for years – the craftsmanship is superb. I never imagined I would have such a classic bed made in proper wood with joints.'

Alan's girlfriend laughs and says: 'I was thrilled when the Warren Evans team came to professionally assemble it.'

As we leave, Alan gives us a huge smile as he sits on the edge of his freshly made-up bed. (The Big Issue, 29/10/2007)
