the sleep council a to z guide states that for optimum comfort and support, beds should be replaced every seven to ten years, but consumers should start looking for signs of wear and tear after five.
a frame that squeaks or rattles when you roll over in bed is a clear indication that your frame is poorly made or has weakened over time. this is one of the main reasons for disturbances in the night which leads to a rough start to your day.

top tips more>
- for small rooms consider our space-saving range (the width of the mattress is the width of the frame which saves you 9cm). avoid using frames with large headboards or footboards, it tends to consume the room making it look smaller than it is.
- on the other hand, if you have a large room consider a bold frame with a stronger finish as a smaller simple frame may look lost in a generous space.
- darker coloured frames tend to command a room making it look much smaller; where as lighter coloured frames will give the impression of light and space.
- a room with a large amount of natural light may make a light-coloured frame look swamped, select a strong wood finish to make your new bed frame a feature in your room
- the low deco or apple bed frames are specifically designed for loft conversions or rooms with low eaves. if low ceilings aren't a problem have a look at our sunday, siesta, bimini, cayman, trellis, vivaldi or evia bed frames which all have high headboards and will command a greater presence in your room.
- our classic range with its conventional styling and clean lines is a must for customers with a love for traditional decor. we recommend our shaker, mozart or cottage frames.
- space restrictions lead to storage issues: most of our bed frames are made to facilitate underbed storage boxes, which eliminate the need for an extra cabinet. if you need more space under your bed we can increase the height of the bed for you.

caring for your bed more>
wooden frames
taking care of your wooden bed frame goes far beyond simply cleaning and dusting. wood reacts to environmental changes such as light, temperature and moisture. it's therefore advisable to keep the bed out of direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time because the ultra-violet rays can be damaging to the wood stain. also both humidity and temperature can have adverse effects on your bed whether it's stained or not. excess heat can cause the wood to shrink and will eventually split from lack of moisture; on the other hand, too much moisture can cause your frame to swell and the stain will begin to peel.
fabric beds
avoid over exposure to sunlight as ultra-violet light can bleach at an alarming rate and can also cause degeneration of some fibres. be sure to vacuum the headboard on a regular basis to remove any grit that may have accumulated because this can cause abrasion. for spills and stains, blot as soon as possible and apply a clean white towel or similar, folded into a pad and placed in close contact with the spot to draw the spillage from the fabric and padding. buying a good fabric cleaner is also recommended.
