your warren evans bed from start to finish...

  • as soon as you've chosen your bed frame, the order is sent through to our walthamstow workshop. forest stewardship council certified wood is then carefully selected and graded, and we begin the process of building your warren evans bed from scratch.
  • the wood is cut to size, according to careful patterns that let us get the most from it. this helps us keep prices low, and to look after the environment at the same time.
  • our joints are handmade; and in particular the traditional mortice and tenon joint is used due to its solidity and strength. we find that traditional craftsmanship like this makes our beds last longer and feel better.
  • the wood is always carefully sanded by hand, which takes a little longer but ensures that the finish is really smooth to the touch.
  • next, the wood is stained and the first coat of lacquer is applied again by hand, and using new equipment that helps us cut down on nasty chemicals that do the environment no favours.
  • after the first coat of lacquer, your bed is hand sanded, and then another coat of lacquer is applied. it's all done by hand in a workshop where we value individual input, not mass-manufactured boredom. mortice and tenon joints are made for the head and footboards, which are then fitted and the entire bed polished and cleaned once more.
  • it's now almost a complete bed frame, and our staff have got to this point in only a few days from start to finish. finally, your bed is loaded for delivery. the end result of a few days attentive work from our skilled staff in our own london workshops.
