Wembley to Soweto

Supporting ethical projects has been at the heart of Warren Evans’ business since inception over 30 years ago.

This month, Warren has donated £2,000 to an innovative photography programme in Soweto, South Africa.

The four week long programme is aimed at young people from underprivileged backgrounds in Soweto who have rarely had the opportunity to work with photography.

This intensive, hands-on course, which is being run by internationally renowned photographer John Cole, is designed to teach them how to make a living with their cameras, so that they can use photography to feed their families.

The money donated by Warren Evans will be used as a contribution towards equipment, facilities and transport.

The course is part of a larger programme called the Maakbet Project, which is a series of skill-sharing enterprises to help disadvantaged young South Africans learn filmmaking and theatrical skills in the South African entertainment and media industry.

The project was established in 2002 by the actor and producer David Westhead.
